One of the questions I hear most often from newly engaged couples is, "What actually happens during a wedding photography consultation?"
If you've never planned a wedding before, it's completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. The good news is that our consultation isn't a test—it's simply a relaxed conversation where we get to know each other, chat about your plans, and make sure you feel confident heading into your wedding day.
As a Hobart wedding photographer, my goal is to be more than someone who turns up with a camera. I want to help you feel prepared, supported and genuinely excited for your day.

Getting to Know Your Story
Every consultation starts with the most important part - you!
I love hearing how you met, how the proposal happened, how long you've been together and what you're most looking forward to about your wedding. These conversations aren't just for fun (although I absolutely love hearing them!). They help me understand your relationship so I can capture photographs that genuinely reflect who you are.
Every couple has a different story, and that's what makes every wedding unique.
Your Vision for the Day
One of my favourite questions to ask is:
"When you picture your wedding day, how do you want it to feel?"
Some couples tell me they want a relaxed celebration with family. Others imagine an elegant day filled with emotion, laughter and unforgettable moments.
There isn't a right or wrong answer.
Understanding how you want your day to feel helps me photograph it in a way that tells your story naturally.
Planning Your Wedding Timeline
One of the biggest benefits of your consultation is having someone guide you through your timeline.
We'll chat about things like:
- Ceremony timing
- Reception plans
- Sunset portraits
- Family photographs
- Travel between locations
- Time for just the two of you
One piece of advice I give almost every couple is to intentionally set aside a few quiet moments together during the day.
Weddings can go by incredibly quickly, and it's easy to spend the entire day talking to guests. Taking even 10 or 15 minutes to step away together allows you to soak everything in before joining your celebration again.
Family Photos Made Easy
Family photos don't have to be stressful.
Family photos don't have to be stressful.
Around four weeks before your wedding, I'll work with you to create a detailed family photo list so we know exactly who needs to be in each photograph.
Having everything planned in advance means we can work efficiently, make sure no one is forgotten and get everyone back to celebrating as quickly as possible.
Talking About Photography
During our consultation we'll also talk about the style of photographs you love.
Some couples are drawn to candid, documentary-style moments, while others love a balance of natural portraits and relaxed direction.
This is also the perfect opportunity to ask any questions about editing style, black and white photographs, galleries, albums or anything else you're curious about.
No question is too big or too small.

What Happens After You Book?
Once you've officially booked your wedding photography, the planning continues.
Here's what you can expect:

STEP 01

Planning Together
Over the months leading up to your wedding, I'm here whenever you need me. Whether it's timeline advice, location recommendations, family photo planning or simply answering questions, I'm only an email away.
Around 6–8 weeks before your wedding, I'll send you a questionnaire so I can gather all the important details about your day.
STEP 02

Final Wedding Consultation
Around 4 weeks before your wedding, we'll meet again to go through everything in detail.
We'll finalise your timeline, family photo list, important moments, vendor information and any last-minute details so you can head into your wedding feeling organised and relaxed.
STEP 03

Your Wedding Day
This is the fun part!
My job is to document your day naturally while helping you feel relaxed and present. I'll gently guide you when needed, step back when the moments unfold naturally, and work alongside your other vendors to keep everything running smoothly.
Most importantly, I want you to enjoy your day while I capture the memories you'll treasure for years to come.
STEP 04

Sneak Peeks
Within 48–72 hours, you'll receive a selection of sneak peeks to relive your day and share with your family and friends while the excitement is still fresh.
STEP 05

Your Full Gallery
Every image is individually selected and carefully edited before being delivered through your beautiful online gallery.
From there, you'll be able to download your high-resolution images, share them with loved ones and order professional-quality prints.
More Than Just Beautiful Photos
Choosing your wedding photographer isn't only about loving someone's portfolio.
It's about finding someone you trust to guide you through one of the biggest days of your life.
I want every couple to leave their consultation feeling excited, reassured and confident that they're in safe hands.
